Our main points of convergence are the Department of Preventive Veterinary Medicine and Animal Health at the University of São Paulo (VPS-FMVZ-USP), the São Remo community, the Research Group on Peripheries of the Institute of Advanced Studies (nPeriferias-IEA-USP) and the group of Cosmopolitics of Care at the End of the World at the School of Public Health (Cosmopocu).

Oswaldo Santos Baquero
Migrant anywhere, coming from the periphery. Among other things, I am a professor in the Department of Preventive Veterinary Medicine and Animal Health at the School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMVZ-USP) and in the Peripheries Research Group at the Institute of Advanced Studies (nPeriferias-IEA-USP).
Yasmin da Silve Alexandre
She was born and raised in São Remo, a community neighbouring USP’s University City, where she experienced the peripheral reality and the “distance” in many ways from USP. She graduated in Veterinary Medicine from this university and has been a member of the SAME Network since 2019, where she has found a space to rethink health and veterinary medicine in terms of the particularities experienced in the peripheries.
Evelise Oliveira Telles
Professor in the Department of Preventive Veterinary Medicine and Animal Health. She works in the area of food safety and sanitary inspection of products of animal origin.
Júlia Amorim
I am a veterinary surgeon who graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC-Minas). I work in the field of legal veterinary medicine as an expert at the Minas Gerais Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPMG) and as a technician at the Institute of Veterinary Medicine of the Collective (IMVC). I strive to change the paradigm of human superiority, which provides the means for animals to be considered inferior species, and I consider multi-species health as an essential practice for health promotion.

I work in the university extension area as a social educator in the Aproxima Ação/PRCEU programme, whose mission is to guarantee the rights of children and adolescents at personal and social risk, as well as being a reference point for dialogue between the University and the surrounding communities.
Carlos Curtidor
Publicist at the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University, Bogotá, Colombia. With the collective Juegos Translúcidos, I have developed the exploration of sounds produced live by toys and objects that accompany and complement the audiovisual experience, reclaiming Foley as a recursive and imaginative means of expression. I see the collective’s project as an alternative means of communication that can be adapted and integrated into different scenarios, always with respect for life.

Resident of Riacho Doce in the São Remo community, Capoeira teacher and director of the Riacho Doce Cultural Centre.
Carolina Carvalho
She has a post-doctoral degree in Environmental Health from the School of Public Health of the University of São Paulo (FSP-USP) and a PhD in Environmental Planning from COPPE – Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). She holds a Master’s degree in Remote Sensing from the National Institute of Space Research (INPE) and a degree in Geology from Unesp. She is currently a collaborating researcher at IEE-USP and founder of Comunidades Vivas – Mapeamento Participativo.
Diana Magdalena Jiménez
Visual and Plastic Artist, Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas, Facultad de Artes ASAB, Bogotá-Colombia. I am the director and founder of the visual analogue collective Juegos Translúcidos. The collective has participated in different film festivals, children’s theatre, street art interventions, playful concerts, visual support for alternative communication campaigns and training and creation workshops.
Dora Mariela Salcedo Barrientos
Public health nurse. Family and couples therapist. Integrative Community Therapist. Lecturer in Obstetrics at the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities (EACH-USP).
Elbio Miyahira
He has a degree in theology from the Free Methodist School of Theology (1998), a degree in Social Sciences from the University of São Paulo (2009) and a master’s degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP) in the Postgraduate Studies Programme in Education: History, Politics, Society, completed in 2015. PhD in progress from the same programme at PUC-SP. Researcher on schooling processes, social inequalities and diversity in the Migratory Movements and Education research group associated with PUC-SP. He has 20 years of experience in the third sector.
Elena Maria Hurtado
I’m a veterinary and animal scientist with a degree from the Universidad del Tolima (Colombia), a master’s degree in Animal Science from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and I’m currently doing my PhD at the Department of Preventive Veterinary Medicine and Animal Health (FMVZ-USP). I’m interested in the interactions between the health of different species.
Érica Peçanha
Post-doctoral researcher at USP’s Institute for Advanced Studies and nPeriferias – Peripheries Research Group, with a grant from the Democracy, Arts and Plural Knowledge project. She has a PhD in Social Anthropology from USP, with a post-doctoral internship at the School of Education of the same institution. She works in the areas of urban anthropology, social research and human sciences and health, with a focus on discussions about the periphery, culture and youth.
Ericsson Magnavita
I’m one of the leaders of the São Remo favela and I act as a leader in the community, involved in a number of projects. I was born in the community, I am 36 years old, I live with 3 children (Emilly, Evellyn, Lucas) and my wife Tatiane. I’m self-employed.
Fabio Gregori
Veterinarian and pedagogue. Professor in the Department of Preventive Veterinary Medicine and Animal Health (FMVZ-USP). He works in the areas of Virology, Animal Health Management and Public Health and Health Education.
Gislene Aparecida dos Santos
Professor at the University of São Paulo (USP), where she teaches in the undergraduate programme in Public Policy Management at the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities (EACH) and in the postgraduate programme in Law (Human Rights). She is the director of GEPPIS – Group for the Study and Research of Public Policies for Social Inclusion (EACH – USP) and is currently the coordinator of the Peripheries Research Group at the Institute for Advanced Studies (nPeriferias-IEA-USP).
Ligia Ferreira Gomes
Professor at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of São Paulo, specialising in Teaching for Health. She works on experiential teaching projects in primary care and is an advisor to the Interunits Professional Master’s Programme at the University of São Paulo.
Marcos Bryan Heinemann
I’m a professor at the Department of Preventive Veterinary Medicine and Animal Health at the FMVZ-USP, responsible for the Laboratory of Bacterial Zoonoses, working mainly with leptospira and leptospirosis. I also coordinate a scientific dissemination project called “Light, Camera and Science”.
Myriam Acero Aguilar
Veterinary doctor with a PhD in Public Health, professor at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science at the National University of Colombia. She is the director of the Human-Animal Studies research group.
Simone Rennó Junqueira
I teach Collective Health in Dentistry (FO-USP). I’m an advisor on the Professional Master in Interdisciplinary Health Training. I have worked in the SUS health services network, in the capital and in the countryside. Mother of three children.
